The venue was 10th anniversary lecture in memory of General Sani Abacha, the late Nigeria Head of State in Kano in June 2008. General Muhammadu Buhari(GMB) in company of two former Head of States asserted that the story that "late Gen. Abacha was a thief as a fairy tale".

ulous and curious for the former Heads of State to have waited 10 years before finding their voices to defend Abacha"

Transparency International(Global Corruption Report for 2004) had previously labelled the dead General as the fourth corrupt leader in the world that did not sway the General from making that denial. However, GMB had served under the late General as the Chairman of the defunct Petroleum Trust Fund (PTF) so he should know quiet a lot about the Government. In the defense of the dark goggled General said at that the ceremony “Ten years without the late Abacha, the said allegations remain silent because there are no facts,”
In the last 7 years the following has happened
- AC has evolved into ACN and merged with other parties to became All Progressive Congress(APC)
- GMB has become one of his flag Presidential Aspirants with Lai Mohammed still the spokeman of the new party.
- A lot of money have been recovered from General Sani Abacha worldwide(See below)
- GMB have not made any statement about his biased opinion despite his soaring anti-corruption credential.
